Our Mission Statement

To provide a forum for:

  1. The processes by which the literary judgements, questions, and interpretations by high-school students are developed, revised, and made more precise, and

  2. The exchange of these literary judgements, questions, and interpretations among high-school students as material for further revision, disagreement, interpretation, and inquiry by another.

Aims & Scope

The Student Reader is a journal publishing writing and dialogue by high-school students arising from close engagement with literature on the basis of specificity, accessibility, close textual attention, and intellectual movement. To present ideas most faithful to the private reading, the journal welcomes a variety of topics and formats.

The journal exists to encourage close and sustained engagement with literature, to make the development of literary judgement and interpretation visible, and to enable student readers to respond to, test, extend, and revise one another’s thinking.
